Hue Jackson fulfills his promise, jumps into Lake Erie after Browns go 0-16

Hue Jackson might not be a very good football coach evidenced by his 1-31 record as the Browns ‘ head coach but he’s a man of his word. On Friday, Jackson fulfilled his promise by plunging into Lake Erie after the Browns’ 0-16 season. Call it a cleanse a cleanse from 31 losses, a minus-364 point differential, and endless heartbreak in a two-year span. According to Jeff Schudel of The News-Herald and Morning-Journal, the lake temperature was 57 degrees. Here it is, the moment:

Kevin Durant found his steady stroke to score 26 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists while also handling a load of the defensive assignment against LeBron James. Klay Thompson added 20 points playing on a tender left leg to put the defending champions two victories from a repeat title they have talked about since the season began last fall.

James followed up his 51-point performance in Game 1 with 29 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds in a far tamer finals sequel and much more lopsided minus the utter craziness of a drama-packed opener three days prior.

With Jim Schwartz, the Eagles more often will use five defensive backs as opposed to three linebackers. Kendricks would’ve likely been the odd man out last season, but once Jordan Hicks suffered a season-ending injury, Kendricks took on a bigger role. With Hicks healthy and Nigel Bradham returning, Kendricks likely would’ve been relegated to more reserve and special teams duty than he’s accustomed.

Now, he’ll join a talented Browns linebacker group that also includes Jamie Collins and Christian Kirksey.

The Eagles and Browns will face off in Cleveland on Aug. 23 in Week 3 of the pre-season.

Really, that’s the happiest ending a 1-31 stretch of football could’ve produced. Now, the Browns have to hope years of misery and the collecting of draft picks will finally result in a winning product. If it doesn’t, Jackson will likely find himself out of a job with his Lake Erie plunge being the only memorable positive moment from his tenure. If it does, Jackson’s Lake Erie cleanse will provide Cleveland with the perfect symbolic moment from their extensive and seemingly unending rebuild.

On Saturday, the former Browns quarterback confirmed he will sign his two-year deal with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, after participating in April’s spring league and several pro-days in front of NFL personnel.
