When Roberto Luongo calls on Friday afternoon, he’s sitting on the cold bleachers of an ice rink, watching his 7-year-old son’s hockey practice. It’s easy to become distracted by professional athletes’ cool jobs and just as easy to forget that they are members of their communities too. Luongo is the Florida Panthers’ starting goalie. But he’s also a hockey dad who lives in Parkland, Florida. He goes grocery shopping. He shuttles his kids to school. His family goes to church.

When the unthinkable happened in Luongo’s hometown on Feb. 14 — a gunman opened fire at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 17 people — the goaltender reeled. Before the Panthers’ first home game after the shooting, Luongo delivered a pregame speech at the BB&T Center, declaring “it’s time for us as a community to take action” and “enough is enough.”

“Right away, my daughter jumped up and was looking around,” Luongo said. “It’s not normal for children to have that feeling. The one thing I want is for my kids to feel safe at school. That’s what it’s all about, right? I don’t care how it gets done; it needs to get done.”

“I’ll just continue to work in all the areas we’ve been working and making progress. That’s really the focus — to continue the process and the journey and keep working,” Tebow said to reporters following the game.

Tebow’s only hit was a hard single to center off the Washington Nationals’ Erick Fedde on March 2. Tebow has been used solely as a designated hitter or pinch hitter because of the injury.

“The ankle was kind of disappointing. I got to put in a lot of good work and feel like I’m improving. It’s getting there,” Tebow said.

Earlier in spring training, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said he thought Tebow would be in the major leagues one day. Tebow said that is not his focus at this point.

“It’s definitely the goal, and we’ll be putting in work every day to one day get Cheap Bruins Jerseys that opportunity, but you can’t just be focused on the end result. We haven’t (gotten) some benefits. Being part of the United States, you expect to at least get the same benefits when tragedies like this happen. The fact that we haven’t (gotten) those, yeah, it’s a disappointment.”

LeBron highlights double standards: When a star leaves, he gets labeled a snake

LeBron James bemoaned the unfair narratives surrounding trades and free agency as he highlighted the double standards players deal with in the NBA after Blake Griffin was traded to the Pistons by the Clippers.

Star forward Griffin, 28, was stunned when he was dealt to the Pistons Monday, having been drafted with the number one pick by the Clippers in 2009.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar and three-time NBA champion James is no stranger to moving around in the league after leaving Ohio for the Heat in 2010 before returning in 2014.

It’s the following list that raises red flags, though. Griffin had a bad bone bruise to his left knee, a meniscus tear in his left knee and started his career by sitting out his first season with a broken left kneecap. He went through a strained MCL injury — in, you guessed it, his left knee — that cost him a month this season. The guy obviously has a bum left knee, and the net result of all this has been 99 games missed in the past four years.

The 34-year-old Bouwmeester has dressed in 35 games this season and has two goals and five assists. But he was averaging 20 minutes a game when in the lineup, ice time the Blues will have to make up for.

Upshall, who injured a knee Saturday against Dallas, has seven goals and 11 assists in 61 games.

Six months ago, it appeared that Clippers star forward Blake Griffin and his new $173 million contract were untradeable. On Monday, Griffin was shipped to Detroit.

If there’s a player who correlates best with Griffin around the league — a star big man who is Cheap Baseball Jerseys Kids languishing on a mediocre team, surrounded by trade rumors that have gone nowhere — it’s the Pelicans’ Anthony Davis. But, like Griffin up until the last week or two, Davis has been declared untouchable by New Orleans’Cheap Authentic Jerseys From China brass.
